The Octávio Lixa Filgueiras Prize for Studies in Culture of the Sea was instituted in 2012, by the Museum and by the Ílhavo City Hall, at the time of the definitive donation of the personal archive of the architect professor Octávio Lixa Filgueiras. It is a recognized tribute to the memory of this remarkable academic, his remarkable research and a clear extension of his rich documental estate and valuable library.

In the previous edition, which was distinguished by a wide and diverse participation, the jury distinguished the work of Mafalda Batista Pinheiro Pacheco, with the title "Fuzeta - a unique piscatorial urban nucleus", which stood out for presenting a consistent study, which results in a great contribution to safeguarding the knowledge of urban history, in particular of a very relevant community in the Algarve region, whose knowledge is expanded in a multidisciplinary perspective.
