The 2020 edition of the Novas Vistas Lumière competition already has its winners. Pedro Lima, with the short film "Amor à Beira Mar", was the winner in the category + 19 years fiction; "Rasteira", by Tiago Cerveira, was the favorite short film in the category + 19 years documentary; in the category 16-18 years won Gabriel Pinho and Luís Almeida with the short film "Bring it Back"; and Rosa Ramos won in the category 12-15 years, with "Inspiration".
Since the program of last weekend's special edition of Mar Film Festival was cancelled (in which was foreseen the delivery of these awards), the announcement of the winning films and their exhibition took place, online, on the 19th and 20th of this month, on the Facebook pages of Mar Film Festival and Maritime Museum of Ílhavo.
In all categories, the winner receives a monetary award: 500 euros for each of the categories + 19 years, documentary and fiction; 250 euros for the category 16-18 years; and 150 euros for the category 12-15 years.
The Novas Vistas Lumière competition, coordinated by Jorge Seabra, is a very short film competition at Mar Film Festival, inspired by the films of the Lumiére brothers, made at the beginning of the cinematographic art. Maintaining the characteristics of the Lumière Views, all works with a duration of up to two minutes, in one shot, in black and white, without sound, without physical or optical camera movements, fictional, documentary, or with both records, produced in the previous year or in the year in which Mar Film Festival is held, are admitted to the competition.
This is a creative challenge, because it does not allow the competitors to use some of the technological possibilities of the current media, leading them to focus only on the narrative component that the moving image contains.
