Exhibition consisting of ten large format photographs, fish images produced by photographer Luis Pavão in the last two years. These are photographs taken in studio, in black and white and printed in darkroom, on photographic paper. Each photograph shows us only one fish, with a dark background, carefully photographed to highlight the details. The lighting is crafted to best match the volumes and detail, the scales and fins are carefully placed for good presentation.
Photographs are performed in fully analog process, and produced a silver gelatin negative on large format (20x25 cm or 13x18 cm), which is then printed on silver gelatin paper in formats from 50x60 cm and 100x70 cm, resulting in high quality images with amazing detail reproduction, which allows us to appreciate all the beauty and detail of the photographed fish.
The artist does not use digital process or Photoshop in all this production. It is meant to show something we see every day, but we do not look closely, nor realize its quality and beauty. For a long time I have noticed the fish exposed on ice in the markets and supermarkets and marvel at the quality of these animals and the beauty of their body.
For many years he has been photographing fish he finds and buys in the markets. He thinks his first fish photographs are from 1995, having worked on this project on several occasions.
