Salting hold

mmi-1.jpgAfter being processed in the deck pond, the cod is thrown through a canvas hose into the hold, where it is individually salted and stowed by a group of salt men coordinated by the salt foreman.
 
The salt is loaded in the beginning of the voyage occupying the central portion of the hold.
 
During the campaign, the cod is stowed in such a way that first occupies the side portions of the hold and finally the central portion, until the last cod closes the hold hatch.
